PRP is a form of biologic treatment that utilizes the body’s natural healing abilities for accelerated healing. These injections are becoming more widely used and recognized around the world as a safe, effective and non-invasive treatment option for damaged ligaments, tendons and muscles. Dr. Quinn Weight Loss Clinic is proud to offer PRP injections in our Michigan offices to help our patients find relief from their pain.

About PRP Injections
PRP injections have been shown to help alleviate painful osteoarthritis symptoms in numerous individuals. After many years of medical research, it’s been proven that platelets naturally move towards an injured area and release growth factors which aid in the healing process.
These growth factors are capable of stimulating cellular growth and accelerating healing. Studies show that PRP injections release as many as 3 to 5 times the growth factors compared to normal human blood.

How it Works
PRP injections are a simple, in-office treatment option for many orthopedic injuries and chronic conditions. After an initial consultation to discuss your pain points and medical history, we will further explain the process and determine whether or not you are a candidate for PRP injections.
During your appointment for PRP injections, we start your treatment by performing a simple blood draw. Then, we spin down the patient’s blood in a special centrifuge to separate the plasma. Once the platelet rich plasma (PRP) is removed from the rest of the blood, the plasma is injected directly into the damaged area.
Utilizing Stem Cells Or Exosomes in conjunction with PRP may also be a good option for you.

Candidacy for PRP Injections
We use PRP injections for a number of orthopedic injuries and conditions, including:
- ElbowLateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow)
- Knee- Ligament injuries, meniscus tears, patellar tendonitis, patellar instability and mild to moderate osteoarthritis
- Shoulder– Rotator cuff injuries, biceps tendonitis, labral and SLAP tears, instability and arthritis
The healing benefits of PRP injections can be used in any age group. This biologic treatment may be an ideal option for patients who have not experienced relief of symptoms after non-surgical measures, such as physical therapy, modified activity and medication. It’s also a great option for those patients seeking a surgical alternative.

Results of your PRP Joint Injections
Patients can expect to see noticeable improvements in their symptoms after a series of treatments spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Even after the initial treatment and injection, patients can experience reduced pain and increased range of motion. After your series of treatments, the growth factors from the injection will continue to improve strength in the muscles, ligaments, and tendons of the treated area. These improvements should continue for roughly 6 to 9 months, after which patients may need additional maintenance treatments.

- Who is a good candidate for PRP injections?
Good candidates for PRP joint injections are those suffering from chronic pain, orthopedic injuries, and degenerative joint conditions. Typically, this treatment works best for those looking for a non-surgical alternative to other pain relief treatments. The best way to know if you’re a candidate for PRP injections is by visiting one of our offices in Novi, Rochester, Shelby, or Clarkston to meet with a provider. During your consultation, we can review your specific goals and challenges in order to find the best treatment for your needs.
- Are PRP joint injections painful?
The level of pain one experiences during PRP joint injections will vary based on the individual. Some patients have sensitive skin or a low pain threshold, which can lead to increased discomfort during treatment. With that being said, most patients only experience mild discomfort during treatment, which stems from the injection rather than the actual growth factors themselves. You may experience some minor swelling and soreness in the treatment area after you leave, but this should subside within 48 hours.
- Do I need more than 1 PRP injection?
A single injection may be enough to adequately treat your symptoms, but many patients benefit from a series of treatments spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Ultimately, the number of PRP joint injections a patient will need depends on their current symptoms and goals for treatment.
- Is there any downtime for PRP injections?
Since PRP joint injections are a non-surgical, minimally invasive treatment, there is no downtime following your treatment. Although rest and recovery are crucial for optimizing results, patients can return home or to work immediately after their joint injections in Rochester, Novi, Clarkston, or Shelby. In order to get the maximum benefits of your treatment, we urge our patients to closely follow all aftercare instructions given by their provider.
